Leather artisan cutting a black leather jacket panel in the Basharat Atelier workshop

Our Craft

The Craft Behind Our Leather Jackets

From considered proportions to the final inspection, every Basharat Atelier jacket is made after purchase with attention to material, construction and individual fit.

Made with intention

Craft begins before the first cut

A leather jacket should feel considered rather than simply assembled. Our process begins after an order is placed, when the selected design, size and submitted measurements are reviewed before production.

This approach allows us to examine proportion and practical fit before the leather is cut. It is made to order—not presented as fully bespoke—and every detail remains subject to the options offered for the selected jacket.

Black leather hides being inspected for grain and consistency before jacket production

01 · Material selection

Leather chosen for the design

Leather is selected according to the character and structure intended for each style. A supple jacket may require a different handle and weight from a more structured outer layer.

Natural grain, tonal movement and small variations are characteristics of genuine leather. Product pages identify the leather offered for each design so customers can understand what they are choosing.

01

Character

Grain and surface are considered in relation to the intended design.

02

Handle

Softness and structure are selected to support the jacket’s silhouette.

03

Consistency

Panels are examined for a balanced appearance before cutting.

02 · Pattern and cutting

Proportion translated into pattern

After the size and available measurement adjustments are confirmed, the pattern is prepared for cutting. The placement of each panel considers the natural character of the leather and the intended balance of the jacket.

03 · Construction

Details designed to work together

Quality is not defined by one decorative feature. It is the relationship between leather, pattern, stitching, lining, hardware and finishing. Each component should support the jacket’s purpose and remain visually restrained.

Because specifications vary by design, the exact leather, lining, closures and available personalisation are stated on each product page.

Fit and proportion

Shaped for the individual

A jacket must allow movement while preserving its intended silhouette. Customers may select a standard size or provide measurements where offered. We review submitted details before production, but accurate measuring remains essential.

Questions

About our making process

Are Basharat Atelier jackets handmade?

Our jackets involve skilled hands throughout cutting, assembly and finishing, supported by professional machinery where it produces a stronger and cleaner result. We do not describe them as entirely handmade.

Is made-to-order the same as bespoke?

No. Made-to-order begins with an established design and size pattern that may be adjusted according to the options offered. Bespoke normally involves an individually drafted pattern and personal fittings.

Will every piece of leather look identical?

No. Genuine leather naturally varies in grain and tone. We seek visual balance, but natural material will not have the absolute uniformity of a synthetic surface.

How long does production take?

The current production estimate is shown on each product page and begins after required measurements and details are confirmed. Courier transit time is separate.
